Halkbank petitions US Supreme Court again in sanctions violation case

( May 5, 2025, 21:34 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Turkish lender Halkbank has again petitioned the US Supreme Court for a writ of certiorari in its effort to throw out a criminal case alleging that it violated US sanctions by processing Iranian oil sales. The bank, which is majority state-owned, is appealing a US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit decision that it isn't entitled to foreign sovereign immunity under common law. That portion of its case was remanded under a prior Supreme Court decision denying that the bank had immunity from criminal prosecution under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act.See attached file. ...
