Malaysia's MITI to be sole issuer of certificates of origin for US shipments

( May 5, 2025, 09:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: To prevent transshipments from other countries to the US through Malaysia's entry and exit points, only the country's Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry will issue Non-Preferential Certificates of Origin, or NPCO, for shipments to the US from tomorrow. In a statement that forms part of Malaysia's response to reciprocal trade tariffs from the US, the government added that NPCOs to the US previously issued by business councils, chambers or associations appointed by MITI will cease immediately.
