Meta fined in South Korea for consumer-protection failures on Instagram, Facebook

( May 2, 2025, 01:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Meta Platforms has been fined 6 million won ($4,171) by the Korea Fair Trade Commission for failing to take appropriate measures to protect consumers on its Instagram and Facebook platforms, where numerous influencers sell products, a violation under the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce. The KFTC also ordered Meta to guide business-holding account influencers on their obligations under the law, verify sellers’ identities and establish a procedure for consumers to seek redress. Meta must identify these influencers and outline how it will implement the corrective orders within 90 days and complete implementation within 180 days of receiving the sanctions.
