South Korea designates 92 conglomerates for disclosure requirements in 2025

( May 1, 2025, 03:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Korea Fair Trade Commission has designated 92 large business groups with assets of at least 5 trillion won ($3.5 billion) as subject to disclosure requirements for 2025 under the competition law. Among them, 46 groups with assets exceeding 11.6 trillion won are also subject to cross-shareholding restrictions to curb excessive economic concentration. The regulator said the inclusion of newly designated companies under disclosure requirements — such as defense firm LIG, cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb and roll-on/roll-off shipping line Eukor Car Carriers — reflects their rapid asset growth, driven by recent shifts in the external business environment, such as a rise in global military spending amid heightened geopolitical tensions, increased crypto investment fueled by the recent US presidential election and surging freight rates due to instability in the Middle East.
