Apple asks US appeals court to overturn jury verdict in PanOptis' patent suit

( April 25, 2025, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Apple told a US appeals court that a $300 million jury verdict against it in a patent case brought by PanOptis Patent Management should be vacated because it does not match up to a previous infringement verdict. Among other things, Apple argued that the jury verdict forms used for the initial infringement trial only presented one question covering all five relevant patents, allowing the jurors to find infringement even if they disagreed on which patent was infringed and violating Apple’s right to jury unanimity. “It was therefore impossible for the retrial jury to know which patents were found infringed; the district court wrongly instructed that all patents were infringed, which the first jury never found and was never asked to find,” Apple said.
