Boeing wins second chance for UV disinfection patent at EPO

By Inbar Preiss ( April 28, 2025, 13:20 GMT | Insight) -- Boeing has been granted another chance to secure European patent protection for its UV disinfection technology, after the European Patent Office’s Technical Board of Appeal overturned a previous refusal. The board concluded that the method was sufficiently disclosed, with the invention providing enough guidance for a skilled person to address occasional failures in maintaining anti-microbial efficacy. The application is now remitted to the Examining Division for further examination of its patentability, including novelty and inventive step.Boeing has secured another opportunity to obtain European patent protection for its ultraviolet disinfection technology, after the European Patent Office’s Technical Board of Appeal overturned an earlier refusal based on insufficient disclosure....
