US seabed mining strategy bypasses ongoing UN talks, EU Commission says

The bloc's executive arm "deeply regrets" Donald Trump's plan to explore this alternative and recalls that every country must respect the International Seabed Authority, the autonomous international organization established under the 1982 United Nations Convention to regulate such activities.The US plan to fast-track the authorization of deep-sea critical minerals exploitation bypasses ongoing international negotiations on the matter and risks undermining international ocean governance, the European Commission said....
