Football player says NCAA transfer eligibility rule falls under US antitrust law

( April 22, 2025, 19:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Counsel for Diego Pavia told a US appeals court that a lower court was correct to enter a preliminary injunction against the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s transfer eligibility rule, saying it’s not entitled to exemption from the antitrust laws. They said the restrictions are commercial in nature because they impact the ability of college athletes to earn compensation for names, images and likeness because “virtually all football-related NIL funds go to Division I football players,” and therefore, the Sherman Act applies.
