Meta fined EUR200 million over ‘consent and pay’ EU breach

The European Commission said the social-network company had not respected rules about data-driven advertising for the period March to November 2024, when it introduced a new user option. The regulator also removed the company’s Marketplace from the list of regulated services under the Digital Markets Act.Meta Platforms must pay 200 million euros (around $230 million) for not complying with the EU’s rules curbing the gatekeeper power of tech companies to gather data. The breach ran from March to November last year. Apple was fined 500 million euros for a breach of the same law in the way it handles its App Store....
