Meta tells US appeals court discovery order against California not exceptional

( April 9, 2025, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Meta Platforms opposed US states request that the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit issue a writ of mandamus directing the Northern District of California to grant an objection to a discovery order that allows Meta to ask for documents from state agencies in discovery.   “California contends that the district court’s discovery order is exceptional— thus necessitating immediate appellate review—because it exposes the California Attorney General to the imminent threat of sanctions and will soon be extended to depositions of California executive officials. Neither is correct. There are no pending motions for sanctions. And no California agency or official is at risk of sanctions given that the agencies have agreed to produce, and are producing, documents to Meta,” it said. See attached file. ...
