Japan's PPC launches stakeholder roundtable on data protection

( April 21, 2025, 09:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s data-protection regulator today announced the launch of a roundtable discussion group to foster regular engagement among key stakeholders. The Personal Information Protection Commission, or PPC, said the panel, chaired by new commissioner and law professor George Shishido, will include 19 members from academia, law, consumer advocacy, business and technology sectors. The group aims to balance safeguarding individual rights and harnessing the potential of personal data amid evolving technological trends. It is scheduled to hold a preparatory meeting on April 28, followed by biannual meetings. The PPC highlighted the need for closer engagement with stakeholders after encountering a conflict between consumer and business groups over a proposed fine system.  The statement, in Japanese, is attached....
