South Korean gaming companies fined for misleading loot-box probabilities

( April 21, 2025, 02:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korean game makers Gravity and WeMade have been hit with fines totaling 5 million won (about $3,500) by the country's competition regulator for misleading consumers about loot-box probabilities in their games, violating the country's e-commerce law. According to the Korea Fair Trade Commission, Gravity falsely advertised item drop rates up to 8 times higher than actual probabilities in Ragnarok Online, while WeMade exaggerated rates by up to 3 times in Night Crow. Both companies, whose loot boxes generate about 75 percent of their revenue, must develop and report prevention plans to the regulator within 30 days and have already refunded affected users.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
