South Korea to spend $1.3 billion more on AI this year

( April 18, 2025, 02:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s science ministry said it will secure 1.8 trillion won (about $1.27 billion) in fresh funding to support projects aimed at strengthening the country’s artificial intelligence capabilities once the parliament approves the government’s supplementary budget bill. The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to use the additional funding to purchase 10,000 high-end GPUs from abroad, rent 2,600 GPUs from the domestic private sector, support domestic developers of AI semiconductors such as neural-processing units and related software, increase an investment fund for AI startups, and expand talent-attraction programs.
