Google adtech monopoly can be broken by passing AMERICA Act, US Senator Lee says

( April 18, 2025, 02:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US Senator Mike Lee said Google and Facebook have a stranglehold on the digital advertising landscape and his bipartisan AMERICA Act will help break their monopoly. In two posts on X, Lee was reacting to a US federal court ruling that found Google to have illegally monopolized some digital-advertising technology markets. The Advertising Middlemen Endangering Rigorous Internet Competition Accountability (AMERICA) Act restores and protects competition in digital advertising in two ways, Lee said. It prohibits large digital-advertising companies from owning more than one part of the digital-ad ecosystem if they process more than $20 billion in digital-ad transactions, he said. Ad-exchange owners cannot own supply-side platforms or demand-side platforms. Supply-side platform owners cannot also own a demand-side platform, and vice versa, Lee said. Buyers and sellers of digital advertising cannot own a demand-side platform or supply-side platform except to sell their own advertising inventory under the bill, he said. The X post follow:...
