Lawmakers propose delaying regulation measures in South Korea AI law

( April 17, 2025, 08:25 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A group of lawmakers from South Korea’s largest party has proposed a bill to revise the framework law on artificial intelligence, delaying the implementation of provisions designed to create new regulations for three years so that the country can focus on promoting the industry. Hwang Jung-a from the Democratic Party of Korea said in a statement that the bill aims to delay the implementation of Articles 31 to 35 of the framework law on AI, which is due to go into force in January 2026, for three years. The articles include regulatory measures on some AI businesses, including those for companies operating based on high-impact or generative AI technologies. Hwang said that there are concerns that the premature regulatory policies may cause the country to miss the golden opportunity to become an AI powerhouse at a time when competition for global AI supremacy is intensifying.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
