Woolworths-Beak & Johnston deal approved by New Zealand regulator

( April 16, 2025, 23:22 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Grocery retailer Woolworths Group’s bid to acquire 100 percent of the shares in frozen-food manufacturer Beak & Johnston in New Zealand has been approved by the country’s antitrust regulator. In a statement today, the New Zealand Commerce Commission said that the merger was unlikely to substantially lessen competition in different types of convenience or ready-meals markets. It added that the regulator’s investigation found that “notwithstanding” Woolworths’ significant retail grocery business, the proposed acquisition was unlikely to result in the merged entity refusing to supply Beak & Johnston products to rival grocery retailers.
