Japanese Internet provider IIJ says over 4 million email accounts hacked (update*)

( April 15, 2025, 03:18 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s leading Internet service provider, Internet Initiative Japan, or IIJ, today reported a security breach that may have affected more than 4 million corporate email accounts. The breach was caused by a threat actor that gained unauthorized access and deployed a malicious program within the company's enterprise Internet security offering, the IIJ Secure MX Service. The Tokyo-based company confirmed, on April 10, 2025, the fact that unauthorized access to the service infrastructure of IIJ Secure MX Service occurred on or after August 3, 2024. IIJ said the service is now operating securely.
