Singapore reports 200-percent increase in data-breach enforcement actions

( April 14, 2025, 09:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Singapore's enforcement actions under the Personal Data Protection Act, or PDPA, have increased by 200 percent, according to the Personal Data Protection Commission's data breach landscape report for 2023-24. These actions include financial penalties, voluntary undertakings or directions issued against organizations that breach the PDPA. The report, which provides an overview of the data breach landscape from January 2023 to December 2024, also said cyber incidents accounted for 82 percent of enforcement cases by the PDPC, with ransomware alone responsible for 62 percent of these. There was also a sharp 41-percent rise in large-scale breaches, or those affecting more then 500, reported to the PDPC within a year.The report is attached....
