Cybercrime prevention and suppression decree comes into effect in Thailand

( April 14, 2025, 04:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Thailand has issued a royal decree aimed at enhancing efforts to prevent and suppress cybercrime, improve digital security and foster better coordination between the public and private sectors. The decree, which was published on the royal gazette over the weekend, requires financial institutions, telecom operators and digital platforms to implement strict identity verification and report suspicious activities. Entities found to have failed in their duties may face civil, administrative or criminal liability. Officials can access digital evidence, freeze accounts and block criminal websites, with court approval, to disrupt cybercrime operations. The decree requires compliance with existing laws, including the Personal Data Protection Act, the Cybersecurity Act and the Computer Crime Act.  The full decree, in Thai, is attached....
