Unilever's Indian arm gets trademark, copyright protection from counterfeit imports

( April 14, 2025, 00:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Unilever's Indian arm, Hindustan Unilever, secured a court order to protect its trademarks such as "Closeup" and "Pepsodent" after discovering counterfeit and illegally imported versions in Indore and Ranchi in early March 2025. The Bombay High Court granted ex-parte ad-interim relief, recognizing that the sale of both outright fakes and genuine Unilever products smuggled from Nepal and mixed with counterfeits constituted intellectual property infringement. The court has appointed receivers with the power to search and seize infringing goods in multiple locations to enforce the interim relief, which will last until July 4, 2025, according to the order issued last month.The order of the Bombay High Court is attached....
