Centralization plans for data protection criticized by German state privacy watchdog

( April 11, 2025, 14:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex summary: The plans to centralize data protection supervision were sharply criticized today by the State Commissioner for Data Protection in North Rhine-Westphalia, Bettina Gayk. Supervision shouldn't be bundled at a central authority, as this would mean “long distances and anonymity” and small companies in particular would lose easily accessible advice, she said in a press release.
