Aeon to create Japan's largest drugstore group by merging Tsuruha and Welcia

( April 11, 2025, 09:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan's leading retail company, Aeon, has announced plans to increase its stake in the drugstore chain Tsuruha Holdings and merge it with its own drugstore chain, Welcia Holdings, to form the largest drugstore group in Japan. Currently holding a 19.99 percent stake in Tsuruha, Aeon intends to raise this to 26.83 percent by purchasing shares from Nomura Securities, pending regulatory approval. Subsequently, on Dec. 1, 2025, Tsuruha and Welcia, a subsidiary of Aeon, aim to execute a share exchange — pending regulatory approvals and shareholder consent from both companies — to make Welcia a wholly owned subsidiary of Tsuruha.
