'Excessive fees' from Google, Apple top complaints in South Korean app market survey

( April 11, 2025, 03:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korean app developers identify review delays and registration rejections as the main unfair practices they experience from app market operators, including Apple and Google, with "excessive commission fees" cited as the biggest problem with in-app payments, according to the 2024 App Market Survey released by the Korea Communications Commission. The survey, conducted annually since 2022 following amendments to the Telecommunications Business Act prohibiting app market operators from forcing specific payment methods, collected data from Google Play, Apple App Store, Samsung Galaxy Store and ONE Store. The study analyzed information submitted by the four operators, surveyed 1,200 app developers and gathered responses from 3,000 consumers who had purchased paid content or apps.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
