Online marketplaces could require tougher consumer protections: Australian government

In publishing a consultation paper on proposed updates to Australian Consumer Law, a component of the 2010 Competition and Consumer Act, the government has suggested that while there are already protections against unfair practices, these may not address emerging forms of misconduct such as “dark patterns,” which distort or manipulate consumer choice online without being outright misleading.
