Bedoya, Slaughter express concerns over DOGE access to FTC-controlled data

( April 10, 2025, 14:23 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Former Federal Trade commissioners Alvaro Bedoya and Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, both Democrats, expressed concerns about the reported presence of officials from the Department of Government Efficiency at the agency. The commissioners said DOGE officials' access to confidential FTC data is a problem, and that FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson must answer questions about how he will ensure that FTC-controlled data is properly protected consistent with statutory obligations. "As a general matter, the Chairman must observe data minimization practices here and grant these accounts access only to the parts of the network they need to access — as is the case with all FTC employees. Further, they should have the ability only to 'read' this information, not to copy or otherwise transfer the data outside of the agency, and not to alter or delete," Bedoya and Slaughter said.
