Toyota retail subsidiary warned by JFTC for potential tie-in sales

( April 10, 2025, 09:48 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Toyota Motor's retail subsidiary, Toyota Mobility Tokyo, was warned today by the Japan Fair Trade Commission, or JFTC, over potential tie-in sales practices. The antitrust regulator said the company, which operates approximately 180 Toyota dealerships in Tokyo, may have bundled the sales of popular new vehicles, such as the Alphard and Land Cruiser, with maintenance, coating and other services, as well as credit contracts from Toyota's lenders, between June 2023 and November 2024. The JFTC has instructed Toyota Mobility to cease these practices and has also requested Toyota Motor and the Japan Automobile Dealers Association to ensure antitrust compliance.
