Lithuanian cartel fines must be balanced with consumer protection, watchdog says

( April 10, 2025, 10:52 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Proposals to modify the principles for calculating fines for cartel agreements in Lithuania require balancing with consumer protection, the Lithuanian antitrust authority said in response to planned updates to the nation’s competition law. The proposals aren’t intended to improve the clarity of the regulatory framework, but rather to significantly reduce the fines imposed on cartelists, the office said. If the current draft plans go ahead, they will weaken the deterrent effect of fines, including consumer protection, the office said. Statement follows (in Lithuanian). ...
