KT Alpha, ClassU sanctioned in South Korea for security breaches, delayed notifications

( April 10, 2025, 05:41 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korean companies ClassU and KT Alpha have been hit with privacy fines totaling 72.6 million won (about $50,000) for failing to implement proper security measures and delaying breach notifications. According to the Personal Information Protection Commission, ClassU suffered a major breach exposing 1.6 million users' personal data through unsecured database access, shared administrator accounts and unencrypted storage of sensitive information. On the other hand, KT Alpha, a subsidiary of telecom giant KT, experienced a credential-stuffing attack that compromised 98,000 accounts, although the regulator said effective data masking limited actual exposure to just 51 users.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
