Woolworths could shut out rivals, but Australian regulator finds no incentive

In a statement today, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said that the regulator’s investigation found that “while Woolworths has significant bargaining power in its dealings with ready meal suppliers, it is unlikely to have a strong incentive to foreclose rival ready meal suppliers.” Woolworths Group has secured approval from Australia’s competition regulator to acquire Beak & Johnston Holdings, after convincing the watchdog that despite its market power, it had “no incentive” to shut out competing ready-meal suppliers....
