E-commerce must be considered in digital fairness law, EU’s consumer chief says

By Luca Bertuzzi ( April 8, 2025, 13:41 GMT | Insight) -- The EU's top consumer protection official Michael McGrath told EU lawmakers today that e-commerce is one of the legal gaps the proposed Digital Fairness Act will have to address. Moreover, e-commerce makes more effective cooperation between consumer protection authorities critical, McGrath said. His comments suggest that Chinese retailers selling illegal products in Europe are at the top of the regulator's agenda, as the DFA as well as centralized enforcement of consumer protection investigations are expected to contribute to combatting illegal online sales.
