State aid spending entered into a 'normalization phase' in 2023, EU regulator says

( April 8, 2025, 09:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Overall state aid spending dropped to 186.78 billion euros in 2023, from 243.27 billion in 2022, the EU Commission said in its latest scoreboard issued today. The biggest reductions were caused by the phase-out of crisis aid, so that expenditure entered into a "normalization phase" in 2023, the regulator said. At the same time, EU countries channeled 73 percent of funds towards EU policy goals, such as environmental protection and energy savings, development and innovation or research.
