European farmers need better safeguards against unfair practices, EU countries say

( April 7, 2025, 14:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Rules for cooperation between EU countries in cases of unfair trading practices by non-EU buyers must be included in EU law to fight such unfair cross-border conduct in the agricultural and food supply chain, EU governments said in their negotiating mandate today. Similarly, they clarified the data protection and confidentiality rules and introduced provisions on covering costs incurred in cases of mutual assistance in a move to boost the European Commission's proposal in that field. They also clarified the rules under which EU countries can deny compliance with a request for information from the national authority of a another member state or participation in enforcement measures.
