Philippine antitrust agency welcomes expanded role under digital connectivity bill
( April 7, 2025, 04:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Philippine Competition Commission, or PCC, has expressed strong support for the open access in data transmission bill, locally known as the "Konektadong Pinoy" or Connected Filipino bill, and has highlighted its readiness to assume additional responsibilities once the bill is passed. During a digital connectivity conference co-organized by the PCC, Executive Director Kenneth V. Tanate emphasized the importance of removing barriers to entry in the telecom sector to enhance competition and services. PCC Commissioner Lolibeth Ramit-Medrano also said the the bill promotes inclusive access to telecom infrastructure by incorporating competition principles into the national connectivity policy.
