Stillwater to pay millions in legal costs over failed Australian antitrust lawsuit

By James Panichi and Saloni Sinha ( April 6, 2025, 23:39 GMT | Insight) -- Stanwell and CS Energy, energy companies owned by an Australian state government, have avoided paying legal costs in their successful defense of an antitrust lawsuit, with an Australian court ruling today that Stillwater Pastoral and other applicants would cover the multi-million dollar legal bill. In a ruling today referring to the costs for the misuse-of-market-power lawsuit, Federal Court of Australia Judge Sarah Derrington said Stillwater must pay Stanwell $490,515 and CS Energy $1,436,179 within 28 days of the judgment. Stillwater Pastoral is facing a multi-million dollar bill, after a judge ruled that the Australian company was liable for costs incurred in its unsuccessful antitrust lawsuit targeting state-government owned energy companies Stanwell and CS Energy....
