Hungary illegally denied radio frequency's renewal, EU court opinion says

( April 3, 2025, 08:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Hungary’s Media Council, Mediatanács, breached EU law when it refused to renew the contract of the commercial radio station Klubrádió and excluded it from a subsequent call for tenders to allocate the radio frequency, advocate general of the Court of Justice of the EU Athanasios Rantos said in an opinion today. Rantos said the principles of the EU regulatory framework for electronic communications, which state that the rights of use for radio frequencies must be assigned based on objective, transparent, non-discriminatory, and proportionate criteria, also apply to renewal decisions.Press release follows.
