Tip-offs about AML probes could attract prison sentences, Australian watchdog warns

In a statement, the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre said that the changes to the offense of tipping off others about a probe meant that the rules were “not focused on the harms that could flow from a disclosure.” Businesses and individuals covered by the laws, including banks, casinos, remitters and money lenders, were now prohibited from disclosing certain information “where it would or could reasonably be expected to prejudice an investigation,” Austrac said. The full statement from Austrac follows: ...
