Snap, Meta say defense lawyers, professors misinterpret Stored Communications Act

( April 1, 2025, 23:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Snap and Meta Platforms told the California Supreme Court that a group of defense lawyers and law professors incorrectly interpreted as "ambiguous" privacy protections in the federal Stored Communications Act for data stored in the cloud by tech companies. "The SCA’s text is not ambiguous: As every court to ever address the question has held, the SCA prevents the disclosure of covered electronic communications pursuant to civil and criminal subpoenas, unless one of its exceptions applies," Snap and Meta told the justices.
