New mandatory code of conduct for Australian supermarkets now in force

( April 2, 2025, 02:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australia’s competition watchdog has announced that an updated mandatory Food and Grocery Code of Conduct, setting rules for retailers and wholesalers on supplier contract negotiations, is now in effect. In a statement, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said large supermarkets and wholesalers now face “significant penalties for contraventions of the updated code.” For the most serious violations, the maximum penalty per breach may be up to A$10 million.
