For second week in a row, sanctions rain down on Ramey Firm

By Melissa Ritti ( April 1, 2025, 22:01 GMT | Insight) -- A law firm was sanctioned for the second time in six days when a federal judge in California yesterday declared patent infringement litigation filed on behalf of Koji IP “truly extraordinary.” The Ramey Firm and three attorneys will be jointly and severally liable with Koji for the attorney fees incurred by defendant Renesas Electronics America, but US Magistrate Judge Peter Kang didn't stop there: As he did last week when sanctioning the firm $60,000 in unpaid pro hac vice fees, Kang ordered the same three members to attend four hours of CLE classes, distribute a copy of the order to the rest of the firm and self-report his findings to the disciplinary committees of any bar association of which they are members.Koji IP’s patent infringement action against Renesas Electronics America has triggered an award of attorney fees under Section 285 of The Patent Act, and another barrage of criticism for the law firm that filed it....
