UK privacy regulator clarifies exemptions for freedom-of-information requests

( April 1, 2025, 10:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK privacy regulator has clarified its expectations on how public sector institutions should respond to Freedom of Information requests. The Information Commissioner’s Office released new guidance and tools seeking to “reduce the inappropriate use of exemptions in FOI responses” by practitioners across the public sector. The guidance focuses on a tool to estimate the cost of responding to FOI requests, which can be refused if the cost would exceed a set limit,  as well as guidance on exemptions for information intended for future publication, on investigations and law-enforcement information, and on information obtained in confidence.
