End-of-life vehicle recycling cartel hit with EUR458 million fine in EU

( April 1, 2025, 14:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Over a dozen carmakers including Stellantis, Renault/Nissan and BMW as well as the European Automobiles Manufacturers' Assocation, Acea, have been fined a total of around 458 million euros for their part in a cartel in the recycling of end-of-life vehicles. The conduct lasted for more than fifteen years, the European Commission said today. Mercedes Benz escaped a fine as it blew the whistle on the cartel. Today's fines come as part of a settlement struck between the parties. The EU watchdog coordinated its investigation with the UK Competition and Markets Authority.Abstract follows.
