AI-aided music works not to be approved, South Korea copyright administrator says

( April 1, 2025, 03:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s oldest and largest copyright collective for musical works has decided not to approve the registration of musical works created using artificial intelligence technology. The Korea Music Copyright Association said it will now approve the registration of only those musical works for which the applicants agree to represent and warrant that they “did not utilize AI and were created solely by human creative contributions.” KOMCA said the decision, which was set to take effect on March 24, was made because of a lack of clear description on that matter in the country’s Copyright Act, which defines a work as a creative production that expresses human thoughts and emotions and an author as a person who creates a work. KOMCA licenses music for public performances, broadcasting and digital streaming, and ensures royalties are fairly distributed. The statement, in Korean, is attached....
