MSC, Maersk ordered by Brazil's CADE to clarify port operations, pricing

( March 31, 2025, 19:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Brazilian competition authority has formally requested clarification from MSC Mediterranean Shipping and Maersk regarding alleged preferential treatment in port operations and freight pricing, as part of an ongoing probe into the companies for allegedly discriminating against other port terminals in the Santos Port. In separate notices, the Administrative Council for Economic Defense, or CADE, demanded that MSC justify data showing higher cancellations of port calls at independent terminals compared to those where it holds stakes or commercial agreements, while Maersk must explain discrepancies in freight discounts at terminals it partially owns, allegations of tied sales — linking maritime freight discounts to road transport services — and similar port cancellation trends.See attached files in Portuguese....
