Glenmark won’t be enjoined in UK from launching generic diabetes drug

( March 31, 2025, 13:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UK High Court Judge Michael Tappin has denied a bid by AstraZeneca AB and AstraZeneca UK Ltd. for an interim injunction that would bar Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Europe from proceeding with its launch of a competitor to AZ's blockbuster diabetes drug Forxiga. Both Glenmark's planned generic and Forxiga contain dapagliflozin as their active ingredient. AZ filed the underlying application after Glenmark announced its intent to introduce its product before the resolution of its related UK lawsuit against AZ, in which it seeks a declaration of patent invalidity. But Tappin said he was unconvinced that the brand drugmaker is at risk of harm which could not be adequately compensated with monetary damages alone. Tappin recommended that Glenmark pay a sum “into a separate bank account for each pack sold” between now and a hearing on injunctive relief in the validity trial.See attached document....
