Indonesia issues new regulation to protect children in digital spaces

( March 31, 2025, 10:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Indonesia's president has ratified a government regulation on the governance of electronic systems for child protection. Key provisions include risk classification of digital platforms, age-based account creation guidelines with parental consent and prohibitions on commercial profiling of children. Platforms violating these regulations face administrative sanctions, including fines and service suspension. The government is encouraging public participation in drafting ministerial regulations for the policy's technical implementation. A two-year transition period is provided for electronic system providers to comply, with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs temporarily overseeing the policy until an independent body is established.  The statements follow and the regulation is attached....
