South Korea forms group to deal with AI-related threats to national security

The Presidential Office of National Security launched the National AI Security Consultative Group and convened its inaugural meeting on March 28, with officials from seven government agencies participating, according to a statement from the office. The office emphasized the need for a proactive response to the changing security environment related to AI, given the significant cybersecurity threats posed by the misuse of AI technology and loss of control. Examples of AI-related security threats that the office provided include the distribution of hacked emails using AI, cyberattacks exploiting vulnerabilities, exposure of sensitive information related to nuclear, biochemical, and explosive materials by AI, leakage of key data and personal information through AI services, and security risks inherent in AI models and services.
