45 Japanese companies first to face enforcement under freelance-protection law

( March 28, 2025, 07:47 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A total of  45 Japanese companies involved in game software, animation production, and relaxation and fitness clubs received guidance from the antitrust regulator to comply with the freelance worker protection law. This marks the first enforcement case announced by the Japan Fair Trade Commission since the Act on the Improvement of Transactions Pertaining to Specified Entrusted Business Operators came into effect last November. The companies failed to specify payment amounts, payment dates and other necessary rules, and were instructed to rectify the practices, which could amount to violations.
