Japanese confectionary company Chateraise violated subcontract law, antitrust agency says

( March 28, 2025, 01:38 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s popular confectionery manufacturer, Chatoraise, has been found in violation of the Subcontract Act, the Japan Fair Trade Commission said. The antitrust agency said that the sweet maker and retailer failed to accept packaging materials and ingredients valued at 23.8 million yen ($158,000) from 11 subcontractors. In addition, Chatoraise required subcontractors to store finished products without compensation. In its corrective recommendation, the JFTC instructed the company to either accept the products or pay for them, cover the storage fees and implement programs to ensure compliance with subcontracting laws.
