Athletes.org says NIL litigation settlement doesn't address key issues

( March 28, 2025, 01:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Athletes.org, or AO — which is also known as The Players Association for College Athletes — submitted an amicus brief in the College Athlete NIL Litigation, telling a California federal judge that there are issues that aren't adequately addressed by a proposed settlement between student athletes and the National Collegiate Athletics Association. "The proposed settlement does not adequately address vital health and safety standards for college athletes," the organization said, adding that the proposal also "does not grant the Defendants’ protections under the applicable non-statutory labor exemptions that have shielded professional sports leagues from certain anti-trust claims." The final settlement approval hearing in In re College Athlete NIL Litigation is scheduled to take place on April 7.See attached amicus brief. ...
