Name platforms that fail at online safety in UK, youth committee urges

( March 27, 2025, 14:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK government and online safety regulator Ofcom should adopt a “name and shame” strategy to expose platforms that fail to comply with online safety regulations, and should also publicize poor practice by social media companies, a committee of teenagers urges in a report published today. But the Youth Select Committee, a National Youth Agency initiative supported by Parliament, argues against blanket social media bans for under-16s, and suggests the creation of an online safety scorecard to “evaluate platforms on their safety measures, responsiveness to harmful content, and efforts to educate users.”Statement follows.
